Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood—and for many mothers, that need begins during childbirth. Pregnancy-related complications are one of the leading reasons patients require blood transfusions. In fact, 1 in 83 mothers needs a transfusion after giving birth. Donate for Mothers is Vitalant’s special initiative encouraging you to donate or host a blood drive in honor of the moms who inspire us. Whether you're celebrating a mother's journey, advocating for maternal health, or simply spreading joy and healing, your blood donation can help save the life of a mother, a newborn, or someone else's loved one. Shortly after giving birth to her daughter Agatha, Kate experienced a complete uterine inversion and began to lose blood rapidly. She was rushed into surgery—twice—and required 14 units of blood and blood products to survive. Kate has faced a long road to recovery, but thanks to generous donors, she’s here to care for her beautiful daughter. “As a donor, you’ll likely never know the impact of what you’re doing,” Kate said. “But never doubt that you are actually saving someone’s life.
