About My Virtual Blood Drive

I recently had surgery yesterday for breast cancer. It all went incredibly well and I am so grateful to my care team. The pre-op nurse asked me if I would accept it a blood transfusion during surgery if I needed it. It made me feel so proud that I have been a blood donor for over 50 years (this is not a typo) and I felt such gratitude for the donors out there who may be giving their blood for me. I made my first donation at a college blood drive when I was 17 and haven't stopped since. Now, however, I have to step back for a prescribed period of time because of my diagnosis, and that makes me feel sad. Whether or not you have donated before or are considering donating for the first time and feel a little apprehensive, think about my story. There's no better feeling in the world than knowing you may have saved a life. There is no substitute for blood. Giving = Living.
