George Popp Memorial Blood Drive
Think of the person on the other end of the needle. Give Blood. Give Life.
About My Virtual Blood Drive
Needles. The sight of blood. That sick feeling that lingers the rest of the day. Many of us hear “Blood Drive” and think of all the reasons not to give blood. What they fail to consider are those on the other end of the needle.
There is no obligation or responsibility, but rather, a choice to sacrifice a little convenience for something bigger than yourself. There is little praise or acknowledgement, but rather a sense of integrity. Giving blood embodies the idea of doing good even when no one is watching.
For me, giving blood is so much more than a simple act. Watching my grandfather struggle in his later years is something that will stick with me forever. He serves as an example of those who are desperate and in need. When I give blood, I think of the people, like my Pap, who may receive my blood. I think of what it would be like to be on the other end. Instead of asking “Why should I give blood?”, I ask “When can I give blood?”
After donating, I pray my blood benefits the person on the other end. As both a person and a Christian, I honor the act of giving blood. The mere possibility of saving a life gives me an indescribable feeling of satisfaction and purpose. Simply knowing that my blood could save someone’s life is so fulfilling.
Giving blood means to inconvenience myself for a day so that someone else can live. The reasons not to give blood are significantly outweighed by the reasons to give blood. I ask that the next time you find yourself in front of a poster advertising a blood drive, you think of the people on the other end of the needle. The people whose lives depend on one decision. Even if I never meet the person on the other end, I still feel that sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The fact that my simple decision could have saved another's life makes all the inconveniences worth it in the end.
