About My Virtual Blood Drive

Why We Host Blood Drives in Memory of Jacob - September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month - a time to raise awareness, support families, and take action in the fight against childhood cancer. At The JM23 Foundation, it’s also a time of deep reflection and renewed purpose. This month - and every month - we honor the life and legacy of Jacob Medina, the young man who inspired the creation of our foundation and continues to guide our mission. Jacob was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 17 years old. He faced his diagnosis with incredible strength, grace, and selflessness. During his 15-month battle, he required countless blood transfusions to help him fight through chemotherapy, surgeries, and the many complications that come with pediatric cancer. What many people don’t realize is that blood products are not optional - they are essential. They are the difference between surviving the day or not. They give children like Jacob a fighting chance. They give families more time. More birthdays. More smiles. More memories. Throughout his treatment, Jacob deeply understood the power of giving. For his 18th birthday, instead of asking for gifts, he asked his friends and family to donate blood. Even while fighting for his life, he was thinking about how to help others. That moment became the heart of our mission. When Jacob passed away in May 2020, his wish became our promise: to keep encouraging blood donation, not just in his honor, but for every child bravely facing a cancer diagnosis. That’s why The JM23 Foundation hosts regular blood drives - including virtual blood drives that allow supporters from across the country to participate. It’s our way of turning grief into action and hope. Each pint of blood donated through our drives represents more than just a medical resource. It represents compassion. It represents community. And it represents the spirit of Jacob - a young man who cared deeply for others and believed in the good people can do when they show up. As we reflect during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to be part of this mission. You don’t have to know Jacob to carry his legacy forward. You just have to care enough to act. By donating blood, you’re giving more than just time - you’re giving life. You’re giving a child the strength to keep fighting and a family the chance to hold on a little longer. Join us this September and beyond. Roll up a sleeve. Share Jacob’s story. Help us ensure that no child fighting cancer has to wait for the lifesaving blood they so desperately need. Together, we are stronger. Together, we carry Jacob’s light forward. #JACOBSTRONG
