Virtual Blood Drive

As a nursing student, I have learned that blood products are not just something we study in textbooks—they are lifesaving therapies that patients rely on every single day. In clinical settings, I’ve seen how critical timely access to blood and platelets can be during emergencies, surgeries, and cancer treatments. Hosting this scholarship blood drive is my way of turning what I am learning into meaningful action and serving my community in a tangible way. This cause is especially personal to me. My grandma bravely fought cancer, and during her battle, she needed multiple platelet transfusions to help her body withstand treatment. Although she lived across the country and I wasn’t able to be with her in person, she told me about the transfusions and how important they were in supporting her through chemotherapy. Hearing her talk about it made it real to me. I understood that behind every transfusion is a donor who made a quiet, selfless decision to help someone they may never meet. She passed away in February 2025, but knowing that blood donors helped sustain her during her fight is something I will always carry with me. Another member of my family recently required a blood transfusion during a critical medical situation. In that moment, our family experienced firsthand how urgent and lifesaving donated blood can be. We didn’t know who the donors were, but their generosity directly impacted someone we love. These experiences have shaped the nurse I am becoming—one who recognizes that healthcare extends beyond hospital walls and depends on community compassion. By hosting this scholarship blood drive, I hope to honor my grandma’s memory, give back in gratitude for those who once gave to my family, and inspire others to realize that one donation can truly make a life-changing difference.
